Nathan Badry – Section Editor

Nathan is a PhD Candidate at McGill’s Department of Natural Resource Sciences, where he focuses on applied social science work within environmental science and natural resource management spaces. Currently, he works on wildlife management in the Cree territory of Eeyou Istchee, northern Quebec, with culturally significant species like moose and lake sturgeon. He is particularly interested in the human dimensions of management, and how people can come together more collaboratively to improve decision-making. His research outlook is informed in part by past work experience from a diversity of settings, spanning government, ENGOs, political parties, and international development projects.

Rina Guxholli

Rina is an MSc in Biological Sciences graduate from the University of New Brunswick, and her researched focused on developing environmental DNA (eDNA) molecular and genetic tools to detect freshwater fishes in Atlantic Canada water systems. Her work was in partnership with the Genomic Network for Fish Identification, Stress, and Health—a national program focused on monitoring and protecting freshwater fishes in the face of rapid climate change. She recently joined the BC Conservation Foundation as a Regional Project Coordinator where she’ll be developing and supporting conservation projects and programs for BC wildlife, habitats, and fisheries.

Thomas Liang

Thomas is a first-year Health Sciences student at Western University. As a student researcher at SickKids and Race to a Cure, his primary interests include public health, social and behavioural health sciences, health equity, and social determinants of health. He also enjoys learning and writing about moral philosophy and bioethics. In his free time, he enjoys playing the piano/guitar, basketball, teaching, and socializing with friends.

Jessica Nicksy

Jess is a PhD Candidate at McGill University studying the impacts of alternative farming practices on soil health and function. She loves nature in general, and applying ecological principles and knowledge to agriculture in particular.

Vanessa Poirier

Vanessa has always had a deep love for nature. She uses science and research as her tools to explore the fascinating world of ecology. After completing a Bachelor of Science in environmental biology and a Master of Science in ornithology, she is now working on a PhD in urban forestry. Science is a deep passion of hers, and sharing that with others is her goal. When she is not doing research, you can find her bird watching or hiking in the great outdoors!

Jake Reicker

Jake is a masters student at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John and is currently studying how to find fish DNA in river water. Apart from fish, he really enjoys studying and working with plants and has a lot of at-home to experiment with how to keep them all alive! Through school he has discovered that he has a passion for writing about science, so he is excited to mentor others in writing publications of their own. After all, the most important part of science is communicating it to others.
